Barbiloc Boxers

Who your are? Barbara & Bill O'Connor
Kennel name? Barbiloc Boxers (a combination of our names)
How did you choose a Boxer? I have always wanted a Boxer since I was a child. I saw a Boxer
in the neighborhood in the 1950s when they were very popular. I thought I would get one when I
got older, not realizing it wouldn't happen until I was in my 50s. I thought the Boxer I saw was very
unique looking and very handsome. Boxers have a special look. I also like the fact that the Boxer
is a medium sized dog, not too small or too large. I also like the Boxer personality. He has a
personality that is almost human. He is very clever but playful and gentle.
Boxer Club Memberships? Tree Towns Boxer Club and Mid-West Boxer Club. I also belong to
several Obedience clubs.
Do you do any training? Yes
What type: Everything but Agility. I tried agility for one set of classes but haven't found the time to
do more. I do mainly Novice Obedience and Rally. My show dogs are trained in Conformation
also.
What training did or are you doing with your dogs?
Right now, I am doing Obedience and Rally.
Who mentored you? What did you learn from the mentor?
I have learned a lot of from many different people but Sandee Leschewski was the first one.
Sandee introduced me to the sport of "showing dogs". Sandee handled my first show dog,
Ginger. She also handled Jack a little and his daughter, Autumn and Autumn's mom, Molly. I
had my first litter with Sandee's help and direction. So, I would credit Sandee with being my first
mentor.
Looking back what do you think are some of your more memorable accomplishments? I am
proudest of finishing Jack's confirmation title. Jack is CH Sunscape's Splendor CD RN. I also
put his companion dog title and rally title on him.
I am proud of finishing Quinn, who is the first dog with the Barbiloc kennel name. Quinn is CH
Barbiloc's Dart Legacy. I am working Quinn in Novice Obedience and Rally. It took over ten years
to get these accomplishments done with a lot of disappointment along the way. We showed
Molly, Carni, and Autumn in Conformation with mixed results but no titles.
I put Autumn's Companion Dog title on her last year. Besides Jack, I put Rally Novice titles on
Autumn and Carni.
What goals are your working for? We will continue to show our Boxers in Conformation and
Obedience and hope for more titles in the years ahead. I also hope to finish three more
offspring of Autumn and make her a Dam of Merit.
What information about you and your dogs would you like people to know?
Our motto is: "We strive to breed Boxers that are healthy, enjoyable to live with, and good
representatives of their breed, conforming as closely as possible to the exacting attributes of the
Boxer Standard ."
Bill and I take seriously our obligation to produce healthy and quality Boxers from our small
kennel. We believe breeders should be willing to show their dogs in the Confirmation ring and
let them be judged on their merits. We also believe in health testing our breeding Boxers and
only use stud dogs that have been health tested. We didn't start out doing this and learned
quickly that this was a big mistake. We try to learn from our mistakes and try not to repeat them.
